Where to Stay in Moab: Best Areas & Hotels for Arches (2026)

Where to Stay in Moab

One town, five very different kinds of stay — and the honest trade-off each one asks you to make between convenience, character, and how far you drive for dinner.

5 Areas Budget Mid-Range Glamping

📍 What most people do

Moab isn’t like Bryce or Zion, where towns line up along one road at increasing distance from the gate. Moab is a single town, and the real question is what kind of stay you want.

Most first-timers book downtown, and that’s usually right — you can park the car after a day in the parks and walk to dinner. If you’d rather be first through the Arches gate in the morning, north Moab on US-191 gets you there faster. And if the lodging itself is meant to be part of the trip, the Colorado River corridor on SR-128 is where Moab stops looking like a highway town.

Which Area Is Right for You?

  • Downtown Moab — walk to restaurants and outfitters. Best for a first visit, and for anyone who doesn’t want to drive again after hiking.
  • North Moab / US-191 — 2 to 3.5 miles from the Arches entrance. Best for early starts and families who’d rather have a pool than a walkable dinner.
  • Colorado River / SR-128 — 20 to 25 minutes out, along the river beneath red cliffs. The most beautiful option, and the least convenient.
  • Glamping — seasonal, March through late autumn. Genuinely different from a hotel, and Moab has both a practical version and a luxury one.
  • Vacation rentals — concentrated south of town in Spanish Valley and purpose-built condo communities, because of how short-term rentals are regulated here.
Area 01

Downtown Moab

Walk to dinner after a day in the parks

Main Street runs the length of downtown with restaurants, outfitters, and gear shops along it. Staying here means you park once and stay parked, which matters more than it sounds after a day of driving park roads. The Arches entrance is about five miles north.

Downtown Moab, Utah Budget · Classic Motel

Bowen Motel

An old-school motel directly on North Main Street. Simple rooms with microwaves and refrigerators, free parking, a seasonal heated pool, and a bike-wash area.

Why we picked itBecause you came to Moab for the parks, not the hotel. The location is far better than the plain exterior suggests — you can walk out the door to downtown restaurants instead of driving and parking again. It’s the honest budget option that doesn’t push you to the outskirts.
Expedition Lodge in Moab, Utah Mid-Range · Retro Road-Trip

Expedition Lodge Moab Arches National Park

On the downtown strip, with an outdoor pool and hot tub, breakfast, family rooms, and free parking.

Why we picked itMore personality than a chain and more practical than a plain motel. The pool and breakfast matter more than you’d think after two days of desert hiking, and the downtown location means the evening doesn’t require a car. 👨‍👩‍👧 Family Favorite
Best Western Plus Canyonlands Inn in downtown Moab Mid-Range · Best All-Around

Best Western Plus Canyonlands Inn

Almost dead-center downtown, with breakfast, an outdoor pool, year-round hot tub, gym, and an outdoor picnic area.

Why we picked itThe dependable middle ground — convenience over atmosphere. The address is genuinely hard to beat: park after the parks and walk to dinner, shops, and outfitters. If you want one booking you don’t have to think about, this is it. 📌 Ashley’s Pick
Hoodoo Moab, Curio Collection by Hilton Upscale · Downtown Splurge

Hoodoo Moab, Curio Collection by Hilton

One block from Main Street and about ten minutes from Arches. Outdoor pool, full-service spa, restaurant, fitness center, and considerably more polished desert styling than the downtown chains.

Why we picked itThe rare Moab property where you get resort-style facilities without giving up the walkable location. Best suited to couples, or anyone who wants the hotel to feel like part of the trip rather than a place to sleep between hikes. 💰 Worth the Splurge
Area 02

North Moab & US-191

Closest to the Arches entrance

The highway strip north of town, between downtown and the park gate. You trade walkable dinners for a genuinely faster park start — which matters here more than at most parks, because the heat decides your schedule and being on the trail at first light is the whole game.

Aarchway Inn north of Moab, Utah Mid-Range · Independent Resort

Aarchway Inn

Two miles from the Arches entrance — about a five-minute drive. Breakfast, pool, hot tub, playground, barbecue areas, and EV charging.

Why we picked itWhere we’d send a family that cares more about getting into Arches quickly than walking to dinner. It reads as a small resort rather than a highway hotel, and the playground and outdoor space work better with kids than the newer business-style chains nearby. 👨‍👩‍👧 Family Favorite
Fairfield by Marriott Inn and Suites Moab Mid-Range · Closest Chain

Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Moab

Marriott markets this as its closest Moab hotel to Arches — roughly a five-minute drive to the entrance. The shared resort-style pool complex is unusually good for a chain.

Why we picked itIf the goal is wake up, eat breakfast, and be through the gate before the crowds, this beats downtown. You lose walkability to Moab restaurants and gain an easy park start. Note the name changed — it’s now “Fairfield by Marriott,” so older links may not resolve.
Moab Springs Ranch bungalows and townhouses Mid to Splurge · Bungalows & Townhouses

Moab Springs Ranch

Three and a half miles from Arches, on twelve acres with cottonwoods, a spring-fed meadow, a seasonal heated pool, and a year-round hot tub. Bungalows plus one-, two-, and three-bedroom townhouses.

Why we picked itFar more distinctive than another US-191 chain, and the property itself is the reason. Grass, shade, and running water are surprisingly valuable after a full day in exposed red rock. The townhouses make this the strongest pick here for families and groups. 📌 Ashley’s Pick

Nothing in Moab is within walking distance of Arches. The closest hotels are still a five-minute drive from the entrance station — plan on getting in the car every morning.

Area 03

The Colorado River & SR-128

Where Moab stops looking like a highway town

Highway 128 leaves Moab and follows the Colorado River east between red cliffs. It’s one of the most scenic drives in Utah, and the lodges along it are the only places near Moab where the setting genuinely changes the trip. The trade is deliberate isolation — dinner in town becomes a round trip.

Red Cliffs Lodge on the Colorado River near Moab Upscale · River Resort

Red Cliffs Lodge Moab, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

At mile post 14 on UT-128, directly beside the Colorado. On-site restaurant, horseback riding, seasonal pool, year-round hot tub, and a film museum. About twenty minutes from downtown Moab and fifteen miles from Arches.

Why we picked itOne of the few Moab stays where the hotel actually changes the trip — you sleep beneath red cliffs beside the river rather than beside US-191. Worth knowing: the property was reworked in 2025–26 and joined Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio, so older articles and photos show a different name and an older room product. 📸 Best Photo Spot
Sorrel River Ranch Resort and Spa on Highway 128 Splurge · Destination Resort

Sorrel River Ranch Resort and Spa

Further out on Highway 128, with ranch programming, dining, and a spa. Eighteen miles and about twenty-five minutes to downtown Moab; roughly thirty minutes to the Arches visitor center.

Why we picked itNot the practical choice for anyone trying to fit every park stop into three days. It’s the choice for people who want the river, the horses, and the property itself to be the point. Be clear-eyed: every dinner or coffee run into Moab is a fifty-minute round trip. 💰 Worth the Splurge
Castle Valley Inn near Moab, Utah Mid-Range · Bed & Breakfast

Castle Valley Inn

A small inn on five acres in Castle Valley — rooms and bungalows, homemade breakfast, orchards, a hot tub, and very dark skies. Sixteen miles and about thirty minutes from Moab; roughly twenty-five minutes to Arches.

Why we picked itFor anyone who actively doesn’t want Moab’s Main Street hotel scene. Quiet, a real breakfast, and a genuine sense of place. We wouldn’t sell it as a convenient alternative to downtown, because it isn’t one — it’s a different kind of trip.
Area 04

Glamping

Seasonal, and genuinely different from a hotel

Moab has two glamping options that aren’t really competitors — one is built around convenient park access, the other around the property being the destination. Both close for winter, so check the season before you plan around either.

Safari tents at Under Canvas Moab Splurge · Safari Tents

Under Canvas Moab

Seven miles north of Moab and DarkSky-certified. Tents range from Safari tents using a shared bathhouse up to Stargazer and Suite tents with private bathrooms, wood stoves, and private decks. Open roughly March through early November.

Why we picked itThe easiest glamping recommendation if you still want quick access to both parks — outdoorsy without being primitive. Choose the tent class carefully: the cheapest Safari tents share a bathhouse, and that’s not always clear at booking. 📌 Ashley’s Pick
ULUM Moab luxury glamping tents Splurge · Luxury Glamping

ULUM Moab

South of Moab near Looking Glass Arch. The tents are effectively hotel suites — air conditioning, private bathrooms, patios — with on-site dining, hot soaking pools, and organised programming. Open roughly late March through late October.

Why we picked itThe splurge for when the lodging experience matters as much as park proximity. It’s meaningfully further from central Moab than Under Canvas, so don’t book it expecting the most efficient Arches base. Book it because you want to spend an evening there. 💰 Worth the Splurge
More Space

Cabins & Vacation Rentals

And why they’re all south of town

Moab’s rental market works differently from most park towns, and it’s worth understanding before you search. The city prohibits short-term rentals in residential zones and treats illegal listings as a code-enforcement priority. Outside city limits, Grand County generally requires nightly rentals to sit within an approved Overnight Accommodations Overlay, each with its own business license.

Vacation rental condos in Spanish Valley near Moab Varies · Whole Properties

Vacation rentals in Spanish Valley & south Moab

The bulk of whole-home inventory sits south of downtown in Spanish Valley and in purpose-built communities like Rim Village, Solano Vallejo, and Sage Creek. Kitchens, laundry, and outdoor space, usually ten to fifteen minutes from Main Street.

Why we picked itWith early starts, cold mornings, and long hot days, a kitchen and a washer matter more here than they would at a milder park. For a family or a stay of three nights or more, browse rentals before booking two hotel rooms — and don’t assume an ordinary-looking house in central Moab can legally rent nightly. 👨‍👩‍👧 Family Favorite

Booking Notes

  • Moab fills for events, not just for summer. Jeep Safari in spring and the Moab races take the whole town, and rates move accordingly. Check the event calendar before you fix dates.
  • Glamping is seasonal. Under Canvas runs roughly March to early November; ULUM roughly late March to late October. Neither is an option for a winter trip.
  • Spring and autumn are peak here, not summer — the shoulder seasons are when the hiking is good, and lodging prices follow the hiking.
  • Nothing is walkable to Arches. Every option on this page involves driving to the park.
  • Open every link before you book. Property names in Moab have changed recently, and a stale link can land you on the wrong hotel.
  • Rentals are concentrated south of town by regulation, not by accident. Central Moab has far less legal nightly inventory than a search suggests.
