Jackson Hole & Grand Teton: 3-Day Itinerary
3 Days · Jackson Hole → Grand Teton National Park
Trip Overview
A shorter, wildlife-focused trip covering the best of Jackson Hole and Grand Teton National Park — no Yellowstone required. Great for a long weekend or as a standalone Teton-only trip. Have more time? See my 5-day Yellowstone & Grand Teton itinerary that adds both Yellowstone loops.
We’ve rounded up guided wildlife safaris, rafting, and more on our Top Experiences page — good if you’d rather have a local expert than self-drive every stop.

Arrive, Explore & Sunset Tetons
Jackson Hole & Grand Teton
- Morning: Arrive at Jackson Hole Airport (JAC), pick up rental car, drive to Jackson (~15-20 min)
- Late Morning: Downtown Jackson — lunch at ❤️ LOCAL Restaurant & Bar (Ashley’s Favorite — we came back a second night!), browse the shops, visit the iconic Antler Arch, explore Town Square
- Afternoon: Jackson Hole Aerial Tram — ride to the summit for breathtaking views, grab waffles at Corbet’s Cabin (optional), take in the panoramic scenery
- Late Afternoon / Sunset: Scenic drive — Mormon Row, Schwabacher Landing (incredible views and the perfect way to end your first day)
- Evening — Choose Your Dinner: Mangy Moose (Teton Village), ❤️ LOCAL Restaurant & Bar (Town Square), or Snake River Grill (celebration dinner)
- 💡 Ashley’s Tip: Arrive early in the day if you can. It gives you more time to enjoy the tram and catch an unforgettable sunset on your first day.
Grand Teton National Park
Wildlife + Jenny Lake + Scenic Loop + Sunset Drive
- Early Morning: 🎫 Ashley’s Pick: Sunrise 4-Hour Grand Teton Wildlife Adventure — best chance to spot moose, bears, elk, eagles & more before the crowds arrive. Professional naturalist guide, binoculars, scopes, snacks & breakfast included. Book this exact tour on our Top Experiences page →
- Late Morning — Lunch: Dornan’s Pizza & Deck or Jenny Lake Lodge
- Midday: ⭐ Ashley’s Favorite Experience — Jenny Lake + Hidden Falls. Boat shuttle across the lake, hike to Hidden Falls, continue to Inspiration Point. “If you only do one hike in Grand Teton, make it this one.” Best family hike in the park.
- 💡 Ashley’s Tip: Parking at Jenny Lake fills by 8-9 AM in summer. Arrive early or use the boat shuttle.
- Afternoon — Scenic Drive: Signal Mountain Summit, Jackson Lake Lodge, Willow Flats Overlook
- Evening — Choose Your Dinner: Dornan’s Pizza & Deck, Mangy Moose (if skipped Day 1), Snake River Grill, or Million Dollar Cowboy Steakhouse
- Sunset — Wildlife Drive: Schwabacher Landing, Oxbow Bend, Willow Flats
- 💡 Ashley’s Tip: If it’s your first trip to Grand Teton, book a sunrise wildlife safari. The guides know where animals were spotted that morning, and you’ll often see far more wildlife than you would driving on your own.
Easy Hike, Scenic Stops & Bighorn Sheep
A slower-paced final day before departure
- Morning — Easy Hike, Choose One: ❤️ Ashley’s Pick: Taggart Lake (beautiful mountain views, great for families, much quieter than Jenny Lake, one of the best value hikes in the park) — or String Lake (great for families and kids, best for swimming)
- Late Morning — Scenic Stops: Jackson Lake Overlook, Oxbow Bend (if you skipped it Day 2), Snake River Overlook (the classic Ansel Adams viewpoint) — these three stops are iconic, don’t miss them
- 💡 Ashley’s Tip: Grab coffee from Persephone Bakery before heading into the park — their pastries are legendary.
- Pick Your Perfect Afternoon:
- Wildlife Lover: National Elk Refuge Road, bighorn sheep, scenic wildlife drive
- Adventure Lover: Snow King Mountain Coaster, Alpine Slide (seasonal), Scenic Gondola (seasonal), or the Jackson Hole Rodeo (Wednesday & Saturday nights in season) — bull riding, barrel racing, and classic Western entertainment
- Downtown Jackson: Shopping, Cowboy Bar, art galleries, ice cream
-
- 💡 Ashley’s Tip: If your flight isn’t until later, hike first and save shopping for the afternoon. Jackson is only about 15 minutes from the airport.
- Evening — Celebration Dinner, Choose One: Snake River Grill, ❤️ LOCAL Restaurant & Bar, or Million Dollar Cowboy Steakhouse
- Evening: Final night in downtown Jackson — Town Square, last-minute shopping, Million Dollar Cowboy Bar (adults), and (if timing works) the free Jackson Hole Shootout in Town Square — a fun, corny staged gunfight that’s a longtime local tradition, running most summer evenings (no Sunday shows)
Trip Tips
- Cell service is limited in the park — download offline maps before you go
- Rent bear spray at the airport or a local outfitter — don’t try to buy and ship one
- Wildlife is most active at sunrise and sunset — plan around it, not around convenience
- Stay in your vehicle when viewing wildlife from the road
- Layers are essential — mornings are cold even in June
